The previous post was...erm, not very good. The examples I picked confused rather than clarified the issue I wanted to highlight, and my thought process was a bit confused, and, as sometimes happens, I learned only during the ensuing discussion what I would have needed to know to write the post well in the first place.
I guess after 9,781 posts there are still going to be a few duds. And I still enjoyed the conversation. Thanks for the thoughts. So now onward!

This is why self reflection is king! Thanks Mike

Well, I rather enjoyed the post and the comments, maybe because they were all over the place.
[I did too. I think I was in sixth or seventh grade when I realized that I learned more from writing papers when I didn't quite know what I wanted to say in advance. They were trying to get me to write outlines and have everything planned out before I started, but I found that dull and unrewarding! In short, no fun. It was a lot more fun to set off not knowing where I was going, and see how the journey unfolded. --Mike]

Seems to me to be a waste of my time to write a reply that you cancel before I'm finished. Meh!

Never apologize, never explain.

When I start writing on a subject, any subject, I notice all these flaws in my thinking. How hard it must be for other people to be in a conversation with me.
