Photo by Gordon Lewis, from the almost-last post
of Shutterfinger, December 2013
I'm about to take some time off for my usual August vacation, and this year our friend Gordon Lewis has offered to act as Guest Host of TOP while I'm a-chillaxin'.
Gordon wrote the popular photography blog "Shutterfinger" from April 2008 to December 2013, so he's well versed in how to pilot such a ship. Those of you who remember Shutterfinger will no doubt be happy about this "slight return," as Jimi Hendrix once called a reprise—I've always found Gordon to be a steady, measured note of sanity in the sometimes tumultuous stew of online photo talk.
He's one of them Harvard grads, and made his bones writing sitcoms in Hollywood before migrating to the corporate world for more regular paychecks and (ironically) less drama. Really, he's the master of many talents, including cooking (he owns a small paleo granola company) and martial arts. He's a musician, too, so you might get a few words about music, or even guitars, as well.
He'll be here all next week.
Mike
P.S. Oh, and by the way, in case you missed the update, our test of the waters a few days back was very positive—thank you for your enthusiasm—so we will reprise our offer of a fine print of Gordon's "Precipitation," 11x14 size, for a reasonable price, in time for delivery before the holidays.
'Open Mike' is the grab-bag editorial page of TOP. It appears on Wednesdays, except when it appears on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday.

It'll be good to hear from Gordon again. I always enjoyed Shutterfinger. Maybe instead of guitars, he could write up a post or two on banjos and some good banjo music. ;)

Hi Mike,
Have a good break. Hope you can rest and be diverted by interesting things. I look forward to reading some posts from Gordon Lewis but I'm going away too. Maybe I'll catch some wifi on the road. I'm heading to the prairies with three cameras. I can't decide exactly what to use so just going to bring all three. I'm sort-of going to follow some of the footsteps of Mark Ruwedel (https://www.amazon.com/Westward-Course-Empire-University-Gallery/dp/0300141343/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1503005040&sr=1-1&keywords=mark+ruwedel+westward) who has really struck a chord for me this year.
Cheers,
Phil.
