...Are you ready? Some big camera news coming up in the next couple of days.
Should be fun.

Featured Comments from:
James Bullard: "Any hints from where/who?"
Mike replies: Sure. Fuji is expected to make a major announcement at 11:30 p.m., although there's been some confusion about whether it happens on the 14th or the 15th. Odds are it's tonight. Expected are the X-Pro2, a new camera intended to complete with the Ricoh GR II called the X70, and a 100–400 (150–600mm-e) super tele zoom lens. An X-E2s is on the way too.
The X-Pro2 has been fairly heavily leaked in generalities, but not so much in terms of specifics. Considering that it's one of the true unique cameras in the market and has so many fans, the rollout will be a big deal in some quarters. I'll have more comments anon.
Hugh Crawford: "Well it's about time! All the action has been in small cameras for too long. Where's my digital Graflex?"
Mike Curly replies: Oh, a wise guy, huh? Nyuk nyuk nyuk nyuk.
Ken Bennett: "Been waiting for an update to my beloved (and battered) X-Pro1 for a couple of years. So I'll be watching with some interest and a credit card handy. I use the X-T1 bodies at work, and they are perfectly nice cameras, but the X-Pro and the X100t are the cameras that make me happy when I shoot. :-) "
And it seems likely that after tonight's PowerBall drawing somebody will even be able to afford the latest and greatest!

Asking "are you ready" when I don't know what's coming is a bit like someone asking you to promise you won't be mad before they tell you the bad news.

OK Mike, I'll play... is it something that includes both the terms "full frame" and "Ricoh/Pentax"? And quite possibly, "Holy Grail"?

All I can say is that I hope those involved have improved the viewfinder cup for those of us who wear glasses. I found it not so great on the first incarnation, which made the camera difficult to work with for me.

Think Fuji will announce the X-ProM? A monochrome 24MP version of the X-Pro2?

Oh joy - will it never end?

A new Canon M? Today?

Mike,
I am not particularly excited about any new camera coming to the market. All these years none of those big time engineers have managed to come up with one good sensible camera design. I have given up hope on that front. We are going to have some humdrum, high cost, heavy, mega megapixel, over sized main battle tanks with built in radar and GPS or UPS, which they will call cameras. Who is interested? Not me. Ranjit

What we really need from Fuji is a digital X-Pan. The lenses are already in place (yes, I have a complete X-Pan 2 system).

How about a Fuji fixed lens digital medium format? They have a fine heritage there, with lenses already designed....I'd bite!

Ricoh just GAVE TOP the Pentax factory, all of its inventory and a new Pentax model.
It's now Mike's problem.

"Asking "are you ready" when I don't know what's coming is a bit like someone asking you to promise you won't be mad before they tell you the bad news."
Reminds me of when I worked at Cisco. I wrote a program that would make a dialogue box pop up on my co-workers computer screens. It said "Are you sure?" and only had a "yes" button.

And next it seems the Olympus Pen F is coming too. Together with the GX8, it will make a very interesting trio of new cameras: Pen F, GX8, and PRO2.
