Ever wondered where the expression "behind the eight ball" comes from? Today's Shot o' the Day (we haven't done one of these in a while): Mike Dechaine, in the yellow shirt, plays a safety, putting the cue ball (white) behind the eight ball (black). Shane Van Boening is then required to hit the maroon 7-ball first. Watch what happens. (This takes only a few seconds.)
He didn't exactly do that on purpose, but he didn't not do it on purpose either. Sometimes things go your way.
Mike
P.S. I have to confess I've been watching snooker almost exclusively lately. It's just so much less depressing than American pool right now...they draw crowds, they use good cameras, they have professional announcers....

Bob Rosinsky: "Admirable game...synthesis of physics, art, and psychology. Having just read The Hustler by Walter Tevis and revisiting the 1961 film, my respect for the game far exceeds that of the 'blood sports.' I would love to see pool offered as a high school elective."
Mike replies: And you like dogs. Bob, you are my kind of guy. :-)
Did your table make the move? Snooker is a much better game, but I haven't played since leaving Canada forty odd years ago.

You'd have loved this movie: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pool_Hustlers --- a pity it has never be dubbed to any other language and that the sad story of the author and main actor makes it almost impossible to find. There is a point where he compares the planning of a complex shot to (insert deity here) planning of the Universe in the big band that is really, well... inspiring.

I've been wondering if your table made it to NY.
