So you're an artist and feeling in need of some recognition...and cash? Try the Aaron Siskind Foundation Grants. The Foundation is accepting applications now. It's for U.S. citizens, and it's not for students.
You need: a mature portfolio of ten digital images showing representative, recent work; captions or notations for each image; a C.V.; an artist's statement of 500 words; and an entry fee of $10.
The grants are $10,000. Between three and 11 grants have been awarded in the past, but the number is usually about six. Past winners have included Joshua Lutz, whose book Meadowlands I've written about, Andrea Modica, Jeff Mermelstein, Gregory Crewdson, Chris Jordan, and Barbara Norfleet—and my friend Kim Kirkpatrick, who was awarded a grant in 1993.
I can think of at least a dozen TOP readers who ought to apply for this, right off the top of my head. You included, maybe? Here are the details.
