Nicholas Jbara, Project Runway Season 5 winner Leanne Marshall in her Brooklyn Studio
Talk about a rip...even if unintentional. Remember that great Melody Gardot album I recommended the other day in Jazz Notes, "My One and Only Thrill
"? Turns out that somehow, somewhere along the line, the name of the photographer, Nicholas Jbara, got misspelled on the album cover! An error we, too, perpetuated. I heard from Nick this morning, who said, "nothing like losing all my potential contacts."
Anyway, for what it's worth, it's Jbara, not Jhara. And here's his website.
Nick Jbara, cover shot for Melody Gardot's My One and Only Thrill
He did say he's very proud of the cover shot. "I love that album so much—I'm glad to have been even a small part of it."
Apologies to Nick for not getting the facts straight (the fact that we have an excuse is no excuse). Although he did also mention that he'd never seen TOP before and is now "a new addict."
They should have kept his original crop and put the words down at the bottom middle. Nice shot!

The funny part is that Nick Jbara will probably get more exposure from TOP than the album cover... LOL

"They should have kept his original crop"
R. Chomko,
That's what I thought too. Although I guess CD covers *are* pretty minuscule, so I guess I understand the temptation to "zoom in" a little.

Don't blame yourself Mr. Johnson. Could've happened to any of us.

If they'd put the text at the bottom of the frame, no one flipping through the CD racks at Borders would would be able to see who the artist is, or what the name of the album is. It's not a poster!

Nick should quickly reserve www.nicholasjhara.com and have it redirected to his website: www.nicholasjbara.com/

While I'm not convinced the T.O.P. addiction is any easier to kick than heroin, it is significantly cheaper and less hazardous to your health.
The only advantage to heroin is that you can have a hit whenever you want, whereas with T.O.P., we are at the mercy of our all-powerful dealer.

Mike,
I believe it was me who commented on how much I liked that cover photo and how I couldn't find any more info on the photographer. I got Nick's name from the 'Details & Credits' section here:

Maybe Nick can contact B&N and fix the issue?

"Maybe Nick can contact B&N and fix the issue?"
I passed along to Nick Kurt's idea to reserve nicholasjhara.com, and he says he intends to do it. Fortunately for him "Jhara" seems like a pretty unusual alphabetical string, so maybe he could search it and do as you suggest, contact individual sites where the wrong information appears and attempt to correct it.
I added "Nicholas Jhara" to the keywords for our post, so maybe anyone searching that spelling will come to our article about the mistake. That would work, too.

Nice work Nick,
Maybe change your name to The Artist Formally Known as Jahara

Especially in the original crop there's a nice contrast between monochrome almost everywhere and a bit of colour on her face and hair -- sort of a Sin City effect, but more subtle.
Yeah, I know, the words need to be on the top so people can see what it is leafing through the stack.
The advent of CDs was not a good thing for record cover art.

Mike, I picked up this CD the other day, and have been really enjoying it. Some of the songs are blue and somber in a way that I like. The title track is hauntingly beautiful. This will be great music for listening in my darkroom when I get it set up again (soon)...
