Pirkle Jones died on March 15th, at the age of 95. He was a close friend and former assistant of Ansel Adams's and a longtime teacher in the Bay area. Although he made many fine California landscapes in the Group f64 style, he was perhaps best known for intimate photojournalism of the Black Panther movement in the 1960s.

Always interesting to read Obits of someone you've never heard of but really should have. The Black Panther images were great. Are there any other galleries of his images online?
BTW, if you're wondering, "Pirkle" is not amongst the top 1000 baby names in any decade according to Baby Name Wizard.
